The Diploma in Preschool Education (Limited Intake: Only 50 Students Per Year) focuses on developing pedagogical skills and early childhood education competencies to meet the needs of educational institutions and childcare industries.

This program equips students with knowledge and skills in child development, creative teaching methods, classroom management, learning material preparation, and basic educational administration.

Through a skills-based approach with practical training and industry exposure, students are prepared to perform effectively in early childhood education settings, while also opening career opportunities as preschool educators, professional caregivers, and pathways for further studies at degree level in education.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

  • Possess a Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level 3 in a related field; or
  • Passed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with at least a pass in Bahasa Melayu and Sejarah.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate in Bahasa Melayu (and basic English).
  • Interested and have potential in early childhood education.
  • Strong interest in early childhood education.
  • Enjoy interacting with children.
  • Caring, patient, and responsible personality.

CAREER PROSPECTS

  • Preschool / Kindergarten Teacher – Teach and guide children in kindergartens, preschools, and early education centres.
  • Professional Caregiver – Provide care and early learning support in childcare centres.
  • Early Childhood Education Program Manager – Supervise and manage kindergartens, childcare centres, or community education programs.
  • Community Educator & Government / NGO Program Officer – Participate in early childhood education initiatives and community development programs.
  • Further Study Pathway – Progress to Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, or professional programs in Early Childhood Education.

COURSE MODE AND DURATION

This program is offered for 12 to 18 months, depending on the program structure and the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS), including industrial training components.

Full-Time Study – Structured training with 30% theory and 70% practical, aligned with the Malaysian Skills Certification System (SPKM).

Industrial Training / On-the-Job Training (OJT) – Exposure to real working environments to enhance practical skills and improve graduate employability.

STUDY LOANS

Students enrolled in this program are eligible to apply for financial assistance through the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK), an agency under the Ministry of Human Resources that provides funding for accredited TVET programs.

Funding benefits include:

• Skills training loan covering tuition fees, insurance, and related costs
• Monthly living allowance throughout the study period
• Funding amount depends on program classification and category level

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Theory Examination – Written tests to assess understanding of early childhood education concepts and pedagogy.

Assignments & Projects – Assessment based on learning materials development, mini projects, teaching documentation, and coursework.

Practical / Teaching Demonstration – Hands-on teaching practice in classrooms or early childhood centres, including creative activity demonstrations.

Industrial Training / Practicum – Performance assessment during placement in kindergartens or childcare centres, including reflective reports and active participation.

Continuous Assessment – Includes attendance, professional attitude, communication skills, and interaction with children.

Assessment Standard

• Based on the Malaysian Skills Certification Standard (SPKM) by JPK
• Combination of theory and practical assessments to ensure graduates are job-ready and competent upon completion of the program.
